Solution: iPhone Hotspot IP Configuration Error
Connectivity issues between RealWear Devices and an
iPhone Personal Hotspot
For those who have experienced connectivity issues when trying to connect
your iPhone's hotspot to your RealWear device, we’ve identified a workaround
to enable connectivity. This process is a one-time fix that will resolve
connectivity as long as the network is saved in the RealWear device’s list of
SAVED NETWORKS.
You'll need a computer (there isn't an app or website that can provide all
necessary network details), plus, to modify the IP Address settings, you
will need to use the VYSOR application to mirror your device’s screen,
enabling you to control the device with mouse clicks and keystrokes. You
can install Vysor here: https://www.vysor.io/
1. Connect your powered-on RealWear device to your computer using the
USB-C cable provided. Open Vysor and click the red “play” button to
initiate the mirroring and control.
2. Connect your computer to your iPhone's hotspot using the hotspot's
password.
3. In your computer's advanced network settings, locate the IPV4 address of
the hotspot and note it down.
4. Now, try to connect to the mobile hotspot on your RealWear device by
entering the hotspot password as usual. When the connection fails, select
the gear icon visible to the right of the network name. If needed, you can
also click the “pencil” icon in the top right corner to modify the network
settings. Saying “CANCEL EDIT” can help to hide the voice keyboard if
needed.
5. Scroll down and click ADVANCED OPTIONS
6. Click DHCP under “IP SETTINGS” and switch to “STATIC”
7. Below that, enter the IPV4 address you wrote down earlier and save the
network entry. (Other fields should be properly populated, including USE
DEVICE MAC)
8. Once you've successfully made these changes, your device might briefly
process the new data from your iPhone hotspot.
In our experience, it should take no longer than 30 seconds to properly
establish connection.
