Configuring Managed / Enterprise Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.1X EAP) on a RealWear Device
If your organization's Wi-Fi network is managed/enterprise (IEEE 802.1X EAP) rather than a simple password network, the standard QR code setup still works - it isn't limited to WPA/WPA2.
Option 1: QR Code Configuration (no cable required)
1. On a computer, go to: https://realwear.setupmyhmt.com/configure/wifi
2. Enter your Access Point (SSID).
3. Under security type, select "IEEE 802.1X EAP."
4. Choose the EAP method your network requires:
- AKA - EAP-Authentication and Key Agreement
- AKA' - EAP-Authentication and Key Agreement Prime
- PEAP - Protected EAP
- PWD - EAP Password
- SIM - EAP-Subscriber Identity Module
- TLS - EAP-Transport Layer Security
- TTLS - EAP-Tunneled Transport Layer Security
5. If applicable, select the Phase 2 authentication method:
- MSCHAP - Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol
- MSCHAPV2 - Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol v2
- GTC - Generic Token Card
- PAP - Password Authentication Protocol
6. Fill in the remaining fields as required by your network (identity, password, and/or certificate details), and check "Hidden network" if applicable.
7. Click Generate Barcode to create the QR code.
8. Put on the RealWear headset and turn it on (or open My Programs if already set up).
9. Say "CONFIGURATION." The device will beep.
10. Point the headset's camera at the QR code to scan it.
11. A confirmation tone will sound, and the device will attempt to connect using those settings.
Option 2: Connect the Device to a Computer (Vysor)
Use this option if your network requires a client certificate or other setup that's easier to complete manually, or if the QR flow doesn't cover your specific configuration.
1. Download Vysor: https://vysor.io (the free version is sufficient).
Note: RealWear Explorer is discontinued as of November 2024 - Vysor is the current recommended tool.
2. Connect the RealWear device to the computer with a USB-C cable.
3. Open Vysor. The device will appear listed by its model number:
- T21G for Navigator 500/520
- T21S for Navigator Z1
- T2100G for HMT-1
- T2100S for HMT-1Z1
4. Click the red play button next to the model name to open a window mirroring the device's screen.
5. Use the computer's mouse and keyboard to control the device directly. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi, and add the network there - this gives the full Android network configuration screen, including Enterprise/EAP options, certificates, and proxy settings.
