Get Connected
Get Connected is how a device joins a Wi-Fi network. It is the first thing a new device asks you to do, and it is what you come back to when the network changes.
Say "GET CONNECTED" from Ari Home or from My Settings. On a device being set up for the first time it opens on its own.
Connecting by QR code
The device reads a QR code holding the network name and password, so you never type either.
- Generate a Wi-Fi QR code. Any phone can produce one: Android and iPhone both offer to share a saved network as a QR code, and any QR generator that supports the Wi-Fi format will do.
- Press the Action Button on the device to start scanning.
- Hold the code in front of the camera.
The device connects and tells you what happened. If it fails, it says why: a wrong password and a network it cannot find give different messages.
While scanning, the volume buttons zoom the camera in and out, which helps with a small code or one you cannot get close to.
Connecting from a phone
The same screen offers a second route, using Ari Mobile on your phone to pass the network details across rather than scanning a code. Ari Mobile is available for Android and iOS.
Configuration sent by your organisation
Ari Business Cloud can produce a QR code that carries more than a network. One of those can set, in a single scan:
- the Wi-Fi network to join
- the device language
- the timezone, date and time
- enrolment in your organisation's device management, which then installs the management app on its own
Scanning one of these shows you what it is about to change and asks you to confirm before it changes anything. The screen then reports each step as it happens, so you can see where it got to if something goes wrong.
Device management through Workspace ONE, SOTI MobiControl, Microsoft Intune, MaaS360 and Ivanti Neurons is supported this way.
Older configuration codes
Codes generated by the older configuration tool are still accepted, so material printed before this version of the app has not stopped working.
